Justin.TV Network Grows

Self-described "failed blogger" and vlogger Nick Douglas is the latest member of the Justin.TV family, going live on the network earlier today. His launch brings the total count of free-roaming 24/7 Justin.TV channels to nine (not counting the behind-the-scenes OfficeCam).

The Justin.TV team has launched a new channel every few days. Following Justine's launch almost three weeks ago, we've met fashion guru Parris Harris, the folks at San Francisco radio station WiLD 94.9 (KYLD), indie filmmaker Beto "Mooncricket" Lopez, Brian Solis of the Web 2.0 blog bub.blicio.us, and Hooman Khalili of San Francisco's Alice@97.3 (KLLC).

No word yet on how large the Justin.TV family will grow. With lifecasters spanning the country — and perhaps more of the globe— the Justin.TV network is increasing the chances that you'll find something interesting happening, no matter when you drop by. Gone are the days, I'd wager, of 300 some people watching Justin Kan sleep.

Meanwhile, Nick has gone out to do some grocery shopping. Less than an hour into his lifecasting debut, he Twittered his first lesson: "Warned away from showing viewers how to get to my house. Must protect secret lair!"

Who's claiming to be Justine's #1 fan slot? The next male "J?" If Justine's SF cameo was indicative of her daily vivacious personality, you will be happily entertained. Now if only there was a TV switch button between justin and justine or side by side streaming with the ability to mute the desired screen with a simple click of the inactive screen.

The next question is who is in line to be the next lifecaster? Hollywood perhaps?

New Look, Features Unveiled

Over on the newly launched "15 Minutes" blog, presumably the new official blog of Justin.TV, Michael Seibel announced their "entirely new site."

On the cosmetic side, Justin.TV got a substantial makeover, with a shinier, smoother, distinctly "Web 2.0" look. The color scheme remains dark, but now there are rounded corners, bevels, tabs, and slick AJAX tricks sprinkled throughout. The homepage was also reorganized, the infamous chat box moved up, and — perhaps most notably — elements of the updated archiver (with its user-defined "tips") put front and center.

The new design is credited to Jacob, who Michael described as an "old friend of Justin and Emmett."

In addition to the interface, though, the Justin.TV team also unveiled some new features. The archive "tips" can now be voted up and automatically submitted to Digg (and embedded in other sites, as before). The chat rooms were re-enginered to use an IRC back-end, and a moderated chat room is now set as the default. And viewers can also set up user accounts, and then earn karma points for being good fans.

Michael notes that this upgrade is just another step on the way to building out the Justin.TV network, which would be expanded to include other lifecasters. Nick Gonzales over at TechCrunch seems to have the scoop on that:

"Each Monday for the following weeks, Justin.tv will be opening their network to a new live video casters, serving as examples for the different ways fans will be able to use live video."

Ultimately, I'm certain the goal is to make their system available to everyone.

I continue to believe that Justin.TV's archive management will be its killer app. With 24-hour lifecasting, Michael told me that they're storing about 50 megabytes for every 15 minutes streamed. The "tip" system and user voting will help find the most memorable moments out of hundreds of hours of content, and the calendar navigation will make it a snap to rewind back to any point in time.

Updated Archiver Unveiled

The code monkeys at Justin.TV have been working hard behind the scenes, and this week they took the wraps off a snazzy new Justin.TV archive system.

A slick Flash application provides a calendar and clock, the option to actually download the clip, and a chance to bookmark a moment and share it as a "tip." You can jump to his gig with Alice 97.5, or revisit "Amanda.TV." Of course, I went straight back to watch Christa's arrival in San Francisco last week.

The archive doesn't go back too far, and there are chunks of time that are unavailable, but for the most part, the new archiver is a remarkable lifecasting achievement.

In fact, I'd say easy browsing and bookmarking archived video is the "killer app" in the live video space. As exciting as "live" is, the average viewer is likely to miss the majority of memorable moments in Justin's life... at least, not without sacrificing much of their own life. Being able to find highlights, both flagged by others and on-demand, will allow people who can't live on Justin's schedule to keep up, and remain fans.

UPDATE: Hmm. The bookmarked "tips" don't seem to be working at the moment. I'm sure they're on the case.

Hi Justin.tv!!

Having met some of you in chat yesterday, I'm so pumped to introduce myself as the new Executive Producer for Justin.tv. My name is Amanda and as of Tuesday evening I have arrived in San Francisco for good. As I'm pretty new to both the area and the job, I would like to make my first priority turning to you, the viewers, in order to gain some insight as to what you love about Justin.tv, what you don't love (what?!?), and what you would like to see from Justin and the cast in the future.

For at least the next week, I'll be in chat twice a week from 9:30am to 10:30am and 5:00pm to 5:30pm (Pacific time). This is just to get to know you guys, as I clearly thrive on your attention... :) In terms of gaining some really focused and detailed feedback, if you're up for it, I'm interested in interviewing a few of you each week on the phone. I'm sure after chatting with you over the next few days we'll figure out the best way to do this.

Justin.tv at the Wild Bomb

This is a fun Justin.tv experience. Justin is currently at the WilD Bomb Concert, and I'm going back and forth between the WilD 94.9 audio-only stream and the Justin.tv video stream (currently backstage at the event). It's an interesting juxtaposition, and I can certainly see the marketability of a combination like this. The station is advertising Justin's feed on the main page web site as "Watch the Bomb Live!" with a link to an embed of the Justin.tv feed. The WilD feed would be nice to hear the music, but it's just the radio feed, meaning standard recorded music with the occasional slick pop-radio DJ commentary of the event (they're also advertising the live feed) and some artist interviews. I think it would work better if they were broadcasting the actual concert, which would be a nice complement to what Justin's broadcasting. I really prefer the less shiny but much more real feel of Justin's feed, especially for the backstage conversation, but you really can't hear the music through it. Of course, if corporations pick up live event streaming, they'll apply the corporate sheen to that, too. I hope that there's a happy medium in there somewhere.

The rumors are true. Justin and crew are being evicted from Crystal Towers - a.k.a. the "YSraper". Michael Seibel twittered about it earlier today with a link to a web site (digg it) making their case against the landlord (Trinity Management). The San Francisco Chronicle has more details.

After all the Badtz Maru shenanigans and press from skipping a BATS Impov show, Justin has been pretty good about keeping his schedule up to date and making his appearances. As Daniel Powter would describe it: so he had a bad day, he took one down, sang a sad song just to turn it around... the camera don't lie.

Tonight at 6PM, Justin is bound to be a stud muffin at the Women 2.0 Napkin Business Challenge Pitch Night. Hopefully he won't be turning down a steady stream of intelligent and creative women entrepreneurs who are pitching their business ideas that all started with brainstorming over a piece of napkin. This should put a smile on viewers' faces who have been demanding more female action!

And, what's more innovative than Justin.tv? The Women 2.0 group was able to whittle down the numerous submissions to these curious five:

"Laser Seal: Exploits ground-breaking interaction between light physics and cell molecular biology to reduce cost and improve quality of surgical wound closure."

There's an impressive panel of judges (mostly VC's), great press outlets (the wonderful webarazzi, Natali Del Conte from TeXtra and perhaps Brian Solis and Adriana Gasciogne from bub.blicio.us), and of course, supportive hosts from Women 2.0.

Rebuffed BATS

Omnipresent Justin watchers Hamsterwatch and Jerry have highlighted one downside to "radical transparency": people can tell when you're blowing them off. "My dog ate my homework" doesn't work if the world can watch your dog on the Internet.

BATS Improv, which bills itself as "The Bay Area's Favorite Improv Company," was on Justin's schedule all week. He was to attend an April 20 show, a "Good vs. Evil Theatresports Tournament." BATS was looking forward to Justin's attendance, promoting Justin.TV alongside the performance and inviting fans to "Watch Tonight's Show Online" through the HatCam.

But when Friday rolled around, Justin was having a bad day. As Hamsterwatch reported, he got a call from his dad and a lecture from his teammates. When a BATS member posted about the group's Justin.TV promotional efforts, producer Lindsay called Justin on the phone to remind him about the show.

Ten minutes after the show started, Justin left a message on the BATS answering machine, claiming that an "emergency" came up.

Less than an hour later, BATS publicly scolded Justin on the Justin.TV MySpace page:

Uh...Justin...where the heck are you???? The show started 50 minutes ago!

You left a message(10 minutes after the show started) to say that an "emergency" came up. But we were watching you online when you called and you were just sitting on your couch.

We promoted your attendance at the show tonight and you should have honored your commitment.

BATS later updated its own MySpace announcement about the April 20 show:

Unfortunately, despite the fact that both Justin and his producer promised to be at the show last night, Justin decided to flake out at the last minute.

And in an extra dose of LAMENESS, we watched him online call over to the theater (10 minutes after the show started) and leave a message that he couldn't make it because of an "emergency." Then we proceeded to watch him online deal with the "emergency" of sitting on his couch.

Who hasn't bailed on a commitment at the last minute? Who hasn't told a little white lie to get out of something? We've all been there. Unfortunately for Justin, though, the camera doesn't lie. And the BATS folks are making no secret of their displeasure.

I gave Justin.tv a call during the call in hour to inquire about the two job opportunities that were recently posted. Since nobody really wants to watch Justin edit the code on the J.tv website (which Justin created himself,) we need a good web developer to make the website beautiful.

Anyone interested in becoming a J.tv executive producer who has experience in television or radio production is an excellent candidate. Justin said that this job “will require you to explore and invent your own space in the company and work a lot.”

Unfortunately, Justin said that people looking to fill the above positions need to live in the San Francisco area. *Poof* there go my dreams of getting closer to J.tv.... Then again, I am willing to relocate. (Are you?) If so e-mail jobs@justin.tv and let us know how passionate you are.

Did you like how the title rhymes? Well how would you like that on your resume?

That's right! Justin.tv has two new job postings, one for Web Developer / Graphic Designer and the other for an Executive Producer.

One of the interesting responsibilities of an Executive Producer is to make the viewers happy. From what I gather in the chat rooms and blog comments, some viewers have been brushed the wrong way. Since I have personally met Justin (nope, I won't reveal my archived cameo date timestamp just yet...), he actually really loves his viewers. Although he does have an "awkward" way of expressing that thought. You really have to see him in person and not only listen to what he says but also watch his body language, which the camera completely misses unless he's asleep. Perhaps as EP, you can bring out his love-able side, in a verbal context!

Best to the job applicants!

Today, Justin spoke on a panel at Podcast Hotel focused on the state of the vlogosphere. The discussion was moderated by Eddie Codel, and included Adriana Gascoigne (bub.blicio.us) and Schlomo Rabinowitz (Wink!).

The discussion inevitably turned toward Justin.TV and the prospect of on-camera sex, but more substantive topics were also addressed. In this clip, Justin notes that Justin.TV could have gone with a more inconspicuous camera, but that the plan was to be up front about its presence.

In this clip, Justin summarizes the general reaction he's seen to Justin.TV, weighing the many positives against the few negatives.

Well reclaim your fame. Justin.tv's blog now contains this nifty video archive where you can select the month, day, hour, and quarter of the hour to stream from!

From the live counter, Justin.tv has been live for nearly 33 days, which pins the launch date on Monday, March 19th. Nick Gonzalez from TechCrunch broke the story that morning. But you can trace back the GoLive date, 4 days before to Thursday, March 15, 2007 around 5:15AM. Try to access archives prior to that, and they don't exist.

When I finally decided to drop by the Digg User Celebration at Mezzanine, the party had finally whittled down to a manageable crowd for a shy gal. Although Justin had already left the place, there were still people to meet.

In fact, I was standing next to Nick at the bar for a good solid 3 silent minutes. When I finally moved my lips, introduced myself to the fellow blogger, and referenced how we are both contributors to this blog, the interruption meter went off. I never finished my conversation with Nick before he was whisked away by another crowd. This scenario is played out time and time again at tech events, and Justin.tv evinces the futile attempts in holding or reconnecting conversations. SVADD – Silicon Valley Attention Deficiency Disorder.That aside, let us revisit a monumental Justin.tv Digg event, shall we? Recall Justin inciting the viewers to Digg a blog entry at least 100 times within an hour? Justin provoked viewers with his anthem of the evening, “Digg it haaaaaaaaaaaaaaard. Digg it looooooong.” He thrilled the viewers with a splash jump in the pool. 100 diggs is no big deal today, but it was back when that declaration was made 7 days into the nascent start up. How time flies.

Justin’s evening culminated with meeting the man himself, Kevin Rose, Founder and Chief Architect of Digg and the lively personality on Diggnation.

Scott Beale of Laughing Squid has posted some lovely pics of iJustine's all-day camera takeover. She wears that hat well!

The lifecasting trend is certainly picking up steam! A few of us tuned in yesterday as our own Justin.tv Guide founder, Ryan Ozawa, took us on a tour of a mall in Hawaii as he experimented with a little bit of Ustream.tv lifecasting himself. WebProNews posted an interesting article on the growth spurt: "You.tv - A New Chapter in Lifecasting." In it, Brian Solis notes that Justin.tv still stands apart from the crowd because he's the only one who's making money and broadcasting 24/7.

As I'm rushing to type this iJustine and her friend Desiree are in the car with Justin and they are making their way to dinner. They are upbeat, totally energetic and gifted at the art of observation. She is already bringing out a [better] side of Justin that I haven't seen since I started watching.

I'll admit, I didn't know who she was until the update that she was taking over Justin.tv for a day. A quick internet lurk session and I have fallen deeply in love with this 23 year old from Pennsylvania. She has perfected the balance of face-in-computer with living life. A "Cute Little Web2.0 Start-up" company investor's dream. Search "iJustine" and you'll see what I mean. She has a fantastic eye for capturing a moment. Her websites are clean. The video blog/movies are totally pro. You'll have to watch one if you haven't seen any yet. Trust me! Some of them kind of remind me of The State (R.I.P.) and HEY! I don't just throw out that analogy for anything.

Weekend at Justin's

Apparently Justin got staggeringly drunk last night and ended up walking home with two Irish guys that he met at a bar. StalkJustinTV reported that they offered to "drag Justin around so they can move the camera" if he ended up passing out, a la Weekend at Bernie's. Upon returning to the apartment, they all sing "Its just good to be true..." out on Justin's balcony.

I'm something of a control freak, so the idea of being so messed up that I don't know what I'm doing is pretty much anathema to me. Being passed out drunk in my bedroom with two drunken strangers talking about masturbation while a camera broadcasts it to the world? Wow. Poor Justin. It probably won't bother him at all, though. Hope everybody still respects him in the morning!

Justin at Ignite

Justin Kan, after much preparation (for him, anyway) and trepidation, finally took the stage tonight at the "Ignite" session at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. He was very nervous, and his viewers were nervous right along with him.

"Ignite" presentations are strictly structured. Five minutes, 20 slides, 25 seconds per slide, and they change whether you're ready or not. Oh, and no notes... a detail that Justin only learned a few seconds before taking the stage.

Inspiration and Evolution

The Justin.TV team worked for months to perfect the mix of hardware and software that would make live, mobile video streaming possible. And the moment Justin Kan was up and running, geeks started thinking about what came next. And today, it's obvious that Justin and friends have started something huge.

True, the Ustream.tv service was running before Justin went live (as was Stickam), but Ustream.tv investor Chris Yeh conceded that it was the intense interest in Justin.TV that helped them realize the potential of what they were doing.

That potential grew exponentially the night of the Acapulco earthquake. Prominent web geek Chris Pirillo was just toying around with Ustream.tv (and talking about Justin) when the quake story broke. Suddenly, he scrambled through a mix of free web services to connect with, and videoconference with, someone in Mexico City. And we watched it unfold, live.

While Pirillo continued to play with live video (even taking his laptop into his bedroom), Podtech's Robert Scoble wanted to do Pirillo one better and, like Justin.TV, broadcast while out and about. So while Justin Kan was preparing to swing through the air with the greatest of ease, Scoble launched what he called "ScobleShow Live." As fate would have it, both Scoble and Justin were driving around town at the same time.

"Eat your heart out, Chris Pirillo," Scoble taunted.

So it begins. Justin Kan. Chris Pirillo. Robert Scoble. Indeed, Pirillo was still online (watching Scoble, of course), so all three ubergeeks were streaming live video simultaneously today.

Who's on tomorrow? Conceivably, anyone. Conceivably, you.

Since its inception, the Justin.TV team has said that Justin Kan's "show" is just the first of many. It isn't so much Justin's life that excites them, as it is the possibility for a whole network of personal lifecasts. Someone in New York. Someone in Austin. Someone in Hawaii.

The Justin.TV crew is very aware of what the folks at Ustream.tv are doing. Indeed, Emmett stopped by Scoble's show to say hello. Everyone sees what's ahead, but no one knows how we'll get there. As this technology involves to make live, mobile video streaming accessible to anyone, the focus will shift from the technology, the "how," to the content, and the "why." And that's where things will really get interesting.

Get Ready For Justine.tv

It's official. Justin announced earlier today that Justine Ezarik from Pittsburgh, PA - a.k.a. iJustine - will be wearing the cam on Tuesday when Justin takes the day off. Who is she you ask? On her blog she describes herself as a "Mac user, blogger, internet lover and new media connoisseur". If you're a fan of TWIT.tv's MacBreak you might have seen her on there. Here is a video featuring a report from Justine at MacWorld earlier this year.

Justin and Justine met earlier in the year at MacWorld, before Justin.tv went live. Here's some video from that first meeting.

Justine is very popular on Twitter. In fact, as of the writing of this post, she has more followers than Justin (1226 for Justine, 982 for Justin). Justin has been bragging that he has been catching up with Justine on Twitter but I suspect that Justine will be adding even more followers when she wears the cam on Tuesday.

Giggity Giggity!

I know a lot has been said on this already but I was out of the loop for a bit so I feel compelled to chime in. I did manage to catch the Justin.tv date escapade thanks to Twitter posts that piqued my interest. I was in my living room cutting photo mats on a deadline, but when the tweets on Justin's date with J started coming in I couldn't resist taking a little peek

First impression? Man, I wish our apartment was as neat as J's. Did she know Justin was coming over or is she just that tidy?

I wasn't able to stick around and watch, but I left the stream on in the office so that I could overhear (and no, I really don't want to discuss what that says about me). I was also watching DVD episodes of Angel in the living room, so I was kind of going back and forth. I was back to Angel when I heard the telltale noise and thought, "Huh. Is that what I think it is? No way!" I muted Angel and ran to my office to see a blank screen set to bao-chicka-bao-bao music and groaning. I figured this was a joke, and the tweets from Justin.tv that read "'kickboxing' with J" and "giggity giggity" pretty much confirmed my suspicion.

At any rate, I thought the whole thing was pretty funny, and honestly, more entertaining than watching Justin and J get busy. That said, I find comments like "Lame 'Sex Tape' Proves Justin.tv Sucks in Bed" pretty sad (this post may be more tongue in cheek, but similar comments have been serious). I understand that it's somewhat different because this is unstaged reality, and I won't think any less of Justin should he choose to broadcast his sex life, but really, isn't there enough places to find porn online?

One viewer asks later "If you wanted to have some private time, why did you agree to wear the camera 24/7." Which is a valid question, but when Justin goes to the bathroom he only exposes (pun somewhat unintended) himself. In this case, he had to take J's feelings into account too, and I thought his stance of discretion being the better part of valor was admirable. Yes, he said he'd show everything, and maybe he really even intended to, but is anyone really surprised that there's going to be exceptions? I say, long live the click tease!

Webnation Followup

Kiyoshi noted earlier this week that Justin was talking via net video with an unidentified blonde woman. That was Amber Macarthur, and it was the interview I referred to in an earlier post.

The interview is now available on Webnation #2. One thing Justin mentioned that I hadn't heard before is that they're working on a shower cam, which will broadcast a bathing Justin, but only from the chest up. Amber's response: "My God Justin, it never ends!"

Speaking of Justin uncovered, I understand there was a little mishap with camera angles earlier today while Justin was in the bathroom. Oops!

Christa, hands down Justin's biggest island fan, has earned more than a few shout-outs from the Justin.TV crew already. And while she's still plotting exactly how she's going to bring the "Aloha Spirit" to Justin and friends, one thing is certain: there's never a dull moment when Christa is in the house.

so now that we know that Justin.tv's sexcapades will look like this,

and most of the things about the event that made me grumpy have been eloquently stated over at hamsterwatch. i want to discuss 'getting it on' with Justin.tv.

Since that screen will be black, and a cheesy porno soundtrack will be added from elsewhere, pretty much anything could happen. It is feasible that Justin.tv and J (Joceyln?) honestly did have just a conversation. While i am not looking forward to the flirting, smooching and petting involved to get that screen to go black i am anticipating with great enthusiasm what we can do after. Some of my favorite suggestions are;

getting our scrabble on (if you don't own a board, you can come to my place.)
getting our netflix on (your request Justin. i know you can't really watch much anymore.)
getting our guitar hero on (what girl worth 'dating' wouldn't want to do this?)
getting our baking on (i recently found the best recipe for cupcakes.)
getting our knitting on (i've always wanted to learn and this would be an amusing chance.)

i think you get the idea. (though if you have more suggestions i'll gladly take them.)

Who Will Wear the Cam?

According to this message on Twitter, Justin is taking the day off next Tuesday and is looking for someone to wear his cam for the day. Email Justin at justin@justin.tv if you think you can fill his shoes for a day. Personally, I'd like to see Justin hand the camera over to someone like Gavin Newsom. Or maybe Kevin Rose. Or how about Larry and Sergey from Google? Who do you think should wear the cam?

Justin's Afterglow

So, Justin had sex. (Or, "a conversation," as he insisted to his partners back at the apartment... and what do we really know?) But unlike the intimate encounters most of us have — I said most — Justin's coital moment will be endlessly commented upon. Not just by Justin and his friends, but by the whole world.

If there was any cuddling, it happened in the next room. When the lights finally came on at J's apartment, Justin wasted no time kissing "J" goodbye and slipping out into the street.

As he hunted for his car, random fans from a nearby building rushed out to congratulate him. They ask him why he ducked out so suddenly. "Discretion is the better part of valor," he opines.

Back at the apartment, his team and friends played it totally cool. As in, pretended they missed the whole thing. Eventually, though, the smirking was impossible to hide, and they set upon him like Barbara Walters on crack. Their interrogation was about as skilled as that, actually. And Justin isn't exactly forthcoming with the details. "It was just a conversation," he chants. They soon invite questions from fans... and it doesn't take long for Justin to bow out in disgust.

The way Justin.tv's friends and probably 99.9% of the viewing audience is acting is probably why Justin.tv was having a difficult time getting ladies to invite him home.

This J woman is some sort of saint and/or has the thickest skin on a human being imaginable.

Whether or not it was just simply a conversation or more, all of this.....discussion.....is well, unnerving.

Congrats to Justin for telling them off.

I hope this eventually gets less awkward for all involved.

Justin Gets It On... Off Camera

The inevitable has apparently transpired on Justin.TV, "Live For 022 Days, 19 Hours, 40 Minutes." Except that it wasn't exactly apparent, as it was not really on Justin.TV.

Justin had a decent date with "J" tonight, and without much ado, they retired to her immaculate apartment (compared to Justin's pad, at least). It wasn't long before "J" disappeared into another room, and Justin followed... without the HatCam. Alas, to the great frustration of pent-up geeks everywhere, the HatCam shared only a fine view of a kitchen floor before the lights were turned out completely.

Suffice it to say, the chatrooms are filled to the brim with... colorful language right now. I'd imagine, though, that Justin's not terribly concerned about that at the moment.

Admit it. When you first heard about Justin.TV, your curiosity quickly wandered toward the scatological and the sexual. Justin has obviously had no qualms about the former, but the latter seems to have presented a line he's not willing to cross. We've covered moments in the past where Justin has unplugged or pointed the camera away, so it's perhaps no surprise that this landmark moment would similarly be censored. It's still disappointing.

Let me be clear: I'm not saying I wanted Justin.TV to provide gratuitous titillation or grainy pornography. There's more than enough of that on the web. What Justin.TV offered, what I found most compelling, was a wholly observed life, a taste of "radical transparency," an unedited approximation of another person's reality. And looking at the media coverage and thoughtful analysis that's surrounded Justin.TV, the team clearly suggested their project would give us that. We see him sleep! We see him eat! We see him pee (and usually wash his hands)! We see him go on dates...

But we don't see everything.

UPDATE: His pals back at Justin.TV HQ apparently agreed that the silence was deafening, and the audio track from a porn movie has kicked in in about half an hour later.

UPDATE 2: The video now has a changing text overlay: "justin_custom_soundtrack" "this_is_real" "about_damn_time" "oh_man_what_is_next" "well_thats_that" "lights_are_on" "congrats_justin" "justin_is_in_the_other_room_with_j" "he_just_left??"

Justin.tv was on a date with J earlier. Last i had checked they were at her house. Now when i want to see what is going on and if Justin has gone home.....i get this black box

the counter is running at the bottom and i'm not hearing that RRRRGGGRRRRRGGGRRRRRRRGRR sound, so i know it's not broken.

Justin.tv's most recent twitter post is "'kickboxing" with J." As i type, that's 35 minutes ago.

i don't want to jump to any conclusions.....

But i am pretty sure they are watching porn. if the music accompanying the moans is any indication. (oh how i wish i knew how to get sound onto this blog.)

Even if what is happening is the real soundtrack, i really do like the black screen. It provides a sense of privacy, but with enough interaction to let those of us with overactive imaginations fill in the rest.

why all the post it notes

Justin usually has various meetings during the week with his team Michael, Emmett, kyle and Lyndsay to figure out things. There is usually a lot of people in the Justin.tv chat room wondering why he is using post it notes.

Justin previously had another startup where created an online calendar system and therefore how come he doesn't have a more high tech way of doing his planing. Though it may not seem like it there is a method too his madness. Justin.tv uses a system which is called the "scrum" system. Scrum is an agile method for project management. The system itself is used widely for teams doing lots of development based work.

It may look funny moving post it notes around but the system itself is very helpful for a team based environment who is constantly changing things.

J.TV: Exploring the Expanding Grey Area of Our Generation?

Not long ago, Michael made several interesting points during a phone conversation, about the current generation, and the technological implications of J.TV. "Our generation is not concerned so much with privacy as other generations have been," Michel said. I for one, tend to agree with him. Day by day, I have noticed the number of degrees that separate me from you and you from someone else dwindling. As of right now, I think our generation may be down to three or four degrees separation.

Michel continued mention how many people do not understand the potential of J.TV, and the cutting edge technology that makes the show and the site possible. I tune into J.TV daily to see how exactly the team will be able to top themselves next. The issue of taking a camera into public places, like restaurants, movie theaters and even public bathrooms came up. But Michel was quick to reply, "People like to watch Justin be engaged in his normal everyday life." For me, what is most attractive about J.TV is the ability to look through a little window and be instantly transported to a completely different world, and way of life.

Discussing Justin's Schedule

Viewers tuning into Justin.tv this evening expecting to see a night out on the town might have been let down because the planned pub crawl was canceled.

Instead, the viewers got to see a pretty interesting (to me at least) discussion about what they should do with Justin's schedule. Should they keep the schedule spontaneous or should there be weekly planned events? Would planned "shows" cramp Justin's style and keep him from going to last-minute parties? Will viewers actually "tune in" for regularly scheduled events or would this make Justin.tv too much like a scripted reality show like The Real World?

It's pretty clear that the entire Justin.tv crew knows that they need to keep the content fresh so that they can continue to build their audience and move past the novelty phase. One of the ideas that was discussed - "Justin's Grilling Hour" - is already on the schedule for this Friday at 10 am. Here's some video from tonight's discussion.

Justin chats with the Great White North

Today, around 5:00 p.m.-ish, Justin was talking via net video and what appeared to be cell phone with the blonde woman you see above.

According to people in the chat, the person was from CityTV News in Toronto. As far as I can tell, she is Amber MacArthur, New Media Specialist, for the station. You can check out her blog here: Inside Popnology. So far, there's no mention of Justin.TV on the station's site, but if that changes, I'll update the post.

Unfortunately, you could only hear one side of the conversation -- meaning you couldn't hear the questions asked. It'd be nice, as some chatters pointed out, to know what's being said on the other end of the line. Perhaps this will be worked out in the future, but there could be some potential legal complications with that. Consent would be needed, etc.

While Justin.TV has been getting a lot of attention from the media lately, and it has no doubt helped fuel the site's popularity, there's a question of sustainability. Will people keep coming without the boost from the national media's spotlight, or at least in these numbers?

It's an excellent question and all comes down to whether Justin's daily life keeps people coming back. Much like new TV shows, audiences can start big, but then they either maintain or drop off.

To an extent, the cable and broadcasting business has a somewhat decent idea of what keeps people coming back and that's how they stay in business. But what about the Justin.TV model? After all, it is untried.

Should Justin.TV have programming? Should it be just "whatever"? Or a mix of many things? It'll be interesting to watch what path they take to keep you and me coming back, 24/7.

The answer: "Wave Boards," a surfing and snowboarding hybrid on two wheels.

i wasn't home and glued to my laptop. GASP!!! i know. Instead i was there in person, risking my own life and limb in three of the four races. The last race i let my friend ride the sweet pink tricycle of DOOM!! Good thing i did. Otherwise, i'd never have seen Justin.tv there for a whole two seconds as he zoomed past me.

i am debating going back and watching the archive footage to see if he made it safely to the bottom or not.

Easter shesh on Lombard

To say I was disappointed to miss that big-wheel race is a bit of an understatement... but you can imagine my delight at turning on Justin today to see them still at play.

A very nice Susan Wu at Charles River Ventures gave the team these odd skateboards-that-feel-like-snowboards things that I've seen randomly at tradeshows and that's about it. Two wheels, a flexible center, and a fly bandage shape. The Street Wave. Rad.

Tuning in to see the boys riding these totally brought this knife video to mind. Watch it if you must, if only for the most danceable song ever right now.

Justin just briefed his team and friends on the Justin.TV sponsorship from the upcoming movie, "Disturbia" from Dreamworks Pictures SKG. The movie poster is already on the wall in the apartment.

DreamWorks will apparently sponsor a whole day of Justin.TV. The twist? They'd have to spend the entire day in the apartment, under "house arrest."

Although they wouldn't be able to leave, the loophole they've found is inviting people in. Party!

Justin was featured briefly on Amber Macarthur's brand new show, Webnation. Since an interview with Amber was listed on Justin's schedule yesterday, I emailed her to see when we could expect to see it. She replied that they'll be interviewing Justin for the show next week.

Webnation is "a fast-paced look at the top web stories of the week, including in-studio interviews." I thought the premiere was highly polished, very entertaining, and indicative of the future direction of video podcasting. I recommend that you check it out, and keep an eye out for Justin!

What Would Justin.tv Do?

As i am typing this Justin and Michael are having a 'discussion' about the things that Justin.tv should be doing. Justin should be doing his day to day life things like checking email, filling out his zipcar application, etc., or run the risk of ruining his relationship with his producers, especially newly hired Lindsay, while at the same time Justin.tv should also be out and about and doing fun things that the viewers want to see. This is quite the conundrum.

How can one be exciting 24/7? Is there really a need to be entertaining all the time? I thought this show was about watching a guy and his friends run their start-up company. Don't they need to check email for that? Doesn't that involve several hours a day at a computer? i've never tried to run a start-up so i'm not exactly sure, but i have a feeling it involves lots of unglamorous work.

What exactly is it that the audience wants?

i want more Justin doing 'boring' things like email checking, video game playing, walking around the city, sleeping and more sleeping. i abhor his drinking adventures and find his attempts at public dating heart-wrenching. i find the tech talk and interviews educational and even entertaining. But i must admit that i am one of those people who watches discovery channel specials on evolution for fun. i highly doubt that every single viewer agrees with me. i bet there are people out there lamenting the new early bedtimes and are demanding he hits a bar tonight. no, not tonight. right now.

How does Justin.tv decide which viewers to appease?

i've no idea.

but i am a big fan of the idea of a schedule. that way the folks who hate email reading know not to tune in between 9-10am, San Francisco time. Those who love listening to tech talk and discussions on how to run a business can eavesdrop anytime between noon and 3pm when Justin.tv is out doing interviews. Night life lovers can tune in past 9pm on Thursdays through Saturdays. Some sort of compromise where Justin has time to himself (well, as much to himself as he can have), Justin.tv gets work done and is also out doing things to lure in more viewers (and sponsors). But these are just rough suggestions.

Maybe Justin.tv will just say, 'Fuck It!' and go out and do what he wants when he wants regardless.

Either way. I don't think i'll be able to stop watching.

No Justin.tv for Mom and Dad

Justin has blocked his parents' IP address, apparently to their dismay. Issues with the family seems to be causing some problems. I imagine that familial dealings would be one of the most difficult aspects of a project like this. It's one thing to expose yourself to the masses, and another to have your life laid bare to your family. I'm pretty open and honest with my mom and dad, but I don't think they really need or want to know everything.

KTVU Interview: Justin.TV Future Plans

Justin.tv: Future of Wireless?

It thought this article on the ComputerWorld website was an interesting take: "Why justin.tv may be the future of wireless." It's subtitled "The content was a snore but the technology worked well."

Craig Mathias, the author of the article, is definitely derogatory towards the content of Justin.tv, although he qualifies that by noting that he's obviously not the target audience. However, he seems to be quite impressed with the overall method of delivery, accomplished with a Sprint EV-DO card. "There were big issues when he went indoors to a restaurant...and there were some back-end, non-wireless buffering issues...But outdoors or in sight of a window, the quality was often quite good and more than simply watchable." Why does it matter? Because, according to Mathias, "I see video as a core driver of the evolution of wireless of all forms."

Sleeptwittering?

As Burt reported, Justin has been in bed for a couple of hours now. Or at least, that's what we're led to believe from the impossibly still lump in his bed. Yet, at 12:52 a.m. San Francisco time, his Twitterstream reported, "sleeping."

Twittering in his sleep? A guest Twitter from a Justin.TV team member? A sneaky note from Justin who snuck out of his bedroom under cover of night (and a still frame) like a lusty high school sophomore? Who knows?

Off The Air

Justin.TV prides itself on the impossibly absurd mission of broadcasting Justin's life all the time. Indeed, the very first "Justin.TV Fact" reads:

"Justin wears the camera 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

Of course, there are exceptions. For a huge swath of the clock, the camera is on a tripod that's pointed at Justin while he sleeps. The camera doesn't follow him into the shower (a bit more technically challenging than sitting on the toilet). He has let other people wear the HatCam so we can see him... usually doing something outrageous. And he's also accommodated people who don't want to be on camera, by turning his hat away while interacting.

And, of course, there are the many times the site is overloaded and is simply inaccessible.

This afternoon, though, brought another interesting asterisk. JTVG contributor Nick noticed that Justin.TV was offline. The site was working, but the video stream was dead. In the chatrooms, a linkspammer was spreading rumors that Justin had been shut down by a lawsuit (and offering his own site as an alternative, of course). While obviously untrue, it was clear something was up.

Some time later, the Justin.TV video stream returned. According to Nick, Justin briefly explained that he had unplugged to take a call from his mom. A mother who is perplexed and unsurprisingly concerned about her son's intensely public life.

While understandable on a personal level, the incident raises the question of where the line will be drawn between what Justin will share, and what he won't share. Andrew Keen: Nemesis of Web 2.0

One of the more annoying parts of the Today Show interview with Justin.tv was the commentary of "media critic" Andrew Keen, author of the upcoming book "Cult of The Amateur". Actually, NBC didn't use the full title of the book - "Cult of The Amateur: How today's Internet is killing our culture" (~~I linked to it but please don't buy it.~~ Link has been removed). Pretty provocative title, eh? If you read through this interview with Andrew Keen you'll see that this guy is attacking everything that Web 2.0 is about. If it was up to Keen, there would be NO USER GENERATED CONTENT. All of the content would be spoon fed to us from Big Media. His mission in life seems to be protecting the "old guard" media, which feels threatened by user generated content. I'm not questioning Mr. Keen's right to take this position. I just think it's a very desperate position that he's taking and it's a losing battle. I also think it's very shady that NBC trotted this Keen guy out as some kind of authority when he is taking a VERY extreme position on this and you could make a pretty good case that NBC is exactly the type of company that Andrew Keen is trying to protect. The Today Show segment on Justin.tv is looking more and more like a thinly veiled attack piece. NBC - are you really that afraid of Justin.tv?

It's almost 11:20pm and Justin is crashed out already. What's interesting is that there are still 500 viewers and the number is going up. It's now 528. As I was watching I asked myself, what am I doing watching this guy try to fall asleep? Is it the voyeur nature inherent in us all? It felt a little creepy, those 500+ pairs of eyes with nothing better to do then to watch Justin sleep. The chat line is still talking about Justin's sleep behavior. Now the number of viewers is up to 623. Go figure.

Will We All Be Lifecasting Someday?

Most people who have taken the time to listen to Justin's many interviews over the past two weeks know that the show that we are all watching right now is not the end game for Justin.tv, Inc. and their major investor. Justin's lifecast is the first show out of the gate but they have bigger plans. If things go as Justin has described it, there will be an entire network of "lifecasters" featuring different kinds of people in different time zones and different parts of the world. Beyond that, Justin has talked about plans to provide the equipment and infrastructure to allow anyone to lifecast. Today, Business 2.0 BETA has a good post (I take some exception to their description of the Today Show interview) describing the tremendous potential of lifecasting.

Last night I spoke with Georges Harik, a former director for product management at Google who's now an angel investor, about how interactive, real-time webcasting's endless possibilities can affect and improve our daily lives.

Instead of watching Justin crash for eight hours, I could watch a live broadcast of my three-month-old nephew napping. Proud parents can broadcast soccer games, talent shows and weddings. Hardcore shoppers can wear webcams to show you whether Macy's white sale is worth attending. Skiers can show you whether it's worth leaving the warm lodge and trek into the back bowls.

This makes total sense to me. Most people would not want to share every moment of their lives with people, but I would be very willing to share selected moments of my life with a select number of friends and family. If you think about it, it's not too different from sharing photos & video over the web (something most of us do). The only difference is that it's immediate, which makes it much more powerful. The immediacy makes it a shared experience which is not really the case with a shared video, a shared photo, or a blog post.

Justin.tv was discussed briefly on TWIT 92. Justin was asked to be on the show, but was busy with something else. He should be making an appearance on TWIT sometime soon, though.

Leo Laporte noted "I tuned in when he was peeing... it's everything!" Co-hosts Merlin Mann and Craig Syverson were dubious, but Leo went on to compare Justin.tv to JenniCam and noted that this is simply the next step in this kind of media.

Here’s what I saw go down:

The so called cat fight was between (I'm not sure who they are yet) the black girl with short fuzzy hair that says she is an entrepreneur and the cute asian girl that's always there (number 1 fan?). I guess black fuzzy hair went outside and saw kyle all over number 1 fan and said something like "get off her she has a boyfriend" then when black fuzzy hair was laptopping next to Justin on the couch, number 1 fan came in and stood in the doorway saying “you don't know me where do you get off saying anything WHO are you nobody invited you here" it took a while for anyone to realize she wasn’t kidding then she was saying stuff like 'WHO is this little girl nobody invited her here she just sits around trying to get on tv all the time etc etc' and the other girl just sat there saying "I didn't say anything" and not getting off the couch. I sat there trying to figure out if it was for real for a long time, then by the time I realized they were serious it was over.

Then number 1 fan then disappeared and Justin told black fuzzy hair not to worry about it. She sat there trying not to talk about it, really not wanting to be the shit-talker but eventually gave in and said why she said something then Michael and Justin both said that it really wasn’t her business and Kyle and Number 1 fan probably should have been irritated with her.

Need to know stuff? Probably not. Old [yesterday's] news? TOTALLY! But hey... who are we if we aren't total Justin.tv lurkers these days...

Jessica Guynn from the The Technology Chronicles weighs in on Justin.tv's Today Show appearance earlier today. From her post:

Kan, in his customary well-spoken baritone, politely explained that he is trying to create "a new genre of media" and that he has "never had any regrets putting the show out there."
"I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't comfortable about giving people live video of what I'm doing 24/7," Kan told Curry.

"What makes you comfortable?" Curry asked.

"What makes me comfortable?" Kan repeated, perplexed.

Curry signed off telling Justin to "keep your shirt on, buddy."

You get the picture.

Kan returned home to his buddies who handle the technical and business side of Justin.tv to complain about getting up at 3 a.m. for such "irritating" questions. Just one of the upsides of having a network and an audience of your own.

Say ALOHA to Lindsay Docherty, the newest and prettiest addition to the Justin.tv team. As Producer she's going to be busy with Justin's schedule and other badly needed items that need attention with this venture. Namely? The girls. Although Michael seemed to enjoy screening date hopefuls, Lindsay's entrance will definitely take some of that load off him now so he can get back to more pressing matters.

You might already be familiar with this fresh face from Justin.tv's myspace and previous photo sessions. Lindsay has actually been acquainted with Justin and Emmett since their Kiko.com days, and I certainly don't blame them for recruiting a professional that already runs in the same circles. The more famous you become, the most "friends" you get. I don't think something like Craigslist is the best idea at this point for our friends at the Justin.tv camp.

As a photographer and newcomer to San Francisco, Lindsay told me that she is very excited to get started with this project as it will help her learn more about what the city has to offer.

It's a pleasure to see a woman join the team and I'm looking forward to seeing the ship get tighter so there's room for the crucial elements. Ahhm... the DATING!

Why i like Justin.tv best when he is sleeping

Tonight Justin.tv has gone to bed much much earlier than his usual 2 or 3 am. I cannot be happier. Not only does it mean that i can go to bed early myself without fear of missing anything, but that i get to see more of Justin.tv when he is just Justin and not trying to be Justin.tv.

While i enjoy Justin.tv's daytime adventures; hooking up the television to the camera so the viewers can see him play video games,

attending the St. Stupid's Day Parade and meeting up with one of my favorite San Francisco mini-celebrities, Frank Chu,

and most importantly, leaving him on the background so i can overhear all the tech/geek talk and eavesdrop in on the other side of interviews that won't be on official television for hours, i personally find his nighttime antics... well, a bit disappointing.

During the day Justin.tv seems like a nice guy, maybe with a bit of an ego (but who wouldn't have one if random people are tracking you down in the city just to tell you how awesome you are), but at least tolerable. Perhaps even at some points forgetting he is on camera and being just Justin, who is probably good for coming over to help make a picnic and head over to the park for some croquet. However, once that sun sets and Justin.tv gets some alcohol into his system, i become thoroughly embarrassed for him and want to stop watching, though i find i cannot.

Never a fan of the bar/club/drinking scene, i am simultaneously repulsed and intrigued, almost every night. Following Justin.tv around as he drinks more beer and attempts to woo a few women, is like a peek inside a world that i rarely ever visit and reminds me at the same time why i never go there. But i cannot stop watching because i hope beyond hope that Justin (and not Justin.tv) will miraculously meet a nice girl who does like him for Justin and not Justin.tv or in the worst case, just for the .tv. As Justin.tv's attempts at woman wooing fail and his alcohol level increases sometimes he doesn't always say very nice things. Even my guy friends are distressed by what comes out of his mouth. (And i will leave it at that.)

So let Justin.tv sleep. Let him sleep for hours, for days, for weeks. Let him lounge around the bed in the mornings and play with his stuffed puppy. That is when he is most himself. That is why i keep watching and watching and watching. i want to see more Justin.

Late Night Thoughts on Justin.tv

While the story of the Justin.tv police raid crank is old news here, I think it's interesting that it's currently being reported in Singapore. Justin has officially gone global!

Currently, Justin is sleeping in anticipation of his 4am interview with the Today Show. Will this be the first instance of a interviewee filming the interviewer on nationwide TV? I find the choice of being able to view the interview from both perspectives rather compelling. To me, it demonstrates one of the reasons why this new form of reality media is so interesting.

Reality television has become extremely popular, but it has always seemed relatively uninteresting to me. I've only tried to watch it a few times so maybe I'm unqualified to say, but it always seems like a bunch of 20-somethings whining and crying and creating needless drama. I myself have been a whiny 20-something, and I really don't need to revisit.

Reality television also seems fairly contrived and less-than-real, and from the hearsay of the filming of the Real World here in Chicago, I would say that's probably fairly accurate. Whatever you want to say about Justin.tv, it's not contrived, and while there's lots of needless drama on the live chat, none of it is orchestrated (although it will hopefully soon be moderated).

At any rate, I'm happy that a reality show that regularly features the geek elite without the prerequisite dumb-blonde beauty is holding it's own. Although I am routing for Justin to find himself a hottie.

Early to Bed

Justin turned in a little after 8 p.m. tonight, the earliest he's gone to bed since going live almost two weeks ago. He explains via Twitter, "Going to sleep early tonight to wake up at 3 AM for the Today Show!"

To be sure, Justin has been living in his own time zone. Sleeping in until almost noon, partying and hanging out until 4 a.m. (Usually we have a late-night advantage in Hawaii, but last night's rooftop jam outlasted even me.) I imagine Justin's schedule favors viewers on the West Coast than the East Coast, who probably see him sleeping more often than not.

In any case, watch for Justin on the "Today Show" tomorrow morning. And tune in to Justin.TV at the same time to see it from the other side.

How the Justin.TV site will react to its first national audience, only time will tell. But either way, it's a big day for the Justin.TV team.

With the camera on 24x7 Justin is bound to have some lowlights and today we are bringing you one of them. And what's great about this lowlight is that it wasn't just his viewers who were watching him. He had a Today Show crew "tailing" him while he was getting stood up. What could have been some unscripted reality TV magic turned into something not so exciting. Another thing about this clip - we think this was the event that triggered the request for a producer to "run Justin's life" and phone-screen any future blind dates.

Yesterday, we uploaded a video showing Justin reading a front-page article about himself in the San Francisco Chronicle. A guy reading about himself while we all watch him is weird enough. It gets a little weirder today.

Today Justin was talking to Scott Beale (Laughing Squid) at the SuperHappyVlogHouse event about the Chronicle article and he ended up mentioning the YouTube videos, including the one that we posted. Today we uploaded a video of that conversation. So now we have a video of a video stream from today where they're talking about a video of a video that was taken yesterday. Feels like one of those infinite mirrors.

The woman mentioned in "Cleaning House" corrects us on her name (Amanda), and writes up her experience cleaning the Justin.TV apartment:

"i'm just some girl, with slight OCD and a love of cleaning, that was so throughly bothered by the mess of their apartment i got them to make me food in exchange for tidying up."

She shares her thoughts on each member of the Justin.TV crew, and laments the fact that, as Emmett says, Justin "would be ok with dating a girl that was only interested in the camera."

Real Life Spam

Justin and crew slipped out of the apartment Saturday night to get some pizza. While enjoying the food and conversation, they're approached by activists from "Fathers 4 Justice," people who clearly felt that Justin.TV was already a viable platform for their message.

A woman in a cape and crown gives Justin their pitch. Her companions offer free T-shirts and hand over a large banner for the Justin.TV apartment. The T-shirts may work, but the team obviously balks at the sign.

After the activists leave, the team reflects on what just happened. "You've made it," someone says.

"I'm a marketing vehicle," Justin marvels.

"I'd like to point out, that was real life spam," someone else says. "Soon it's going to be a Viagra salesman."

Justin's partners wonder why people give T-shirts to Justin, when they are the ones most likely to appear on camera. "My body is worth about a hundred dollars per square inch!"

Real Worlds

Justin is talking to Irene McGee from MTV's "The Real World: Seattle," in 1998 at SuperHappyVlogHouse. They're talking about reality versus illusion and how the presence of cameras change people. Justin notes that "The Real World" was one of the inspirations for Justin.TV, and agrees that being on camera makes him less likely to speak freely.Attendees riled up by Robert Scoble's Twitters from afar pull Justin away, but Irene and Justin agree to talk again later.

It could turn out to be an interesting conversation. Per Wikipedia, McGee is a media activist, and speaks often about the "manipulation of the mass media," and "the dangers of reality television."

She's also a a podcaster, and recently lost her apartment in a fire.

The folks over at Lingr, which provides the embedded chatroom for Justin.TV, posted to their Twitter stream that they are "Preparing like mad for justin.tv's Today show appearance on Monday."

I'd be curious what "preparing" means. Given how often Justin.TV's site is overwhelmed with traffic, I suspect it's natural that a geek's obsession would be with bandwidth and scalability. But personally, when it comes to the impending arrival of a national, mainstream audience, I'd be more worried about content.

At any given moment, the chat box at Justin.TV is plagued with linkspammers and chuckleheads who don't recognize the irony in mocking someone for not having a life. The language ranges from crude to inflammatory. If you dare ask where Justin happens to be, you'll be told something rather rude about your mother. I've taken to using Justin.TV's embed code on a blank page to filter that stuff out, but suffice it to say, the way Justin.TV works right now will not make the best first impression should your mom decide to check it out tomorrow morning.

The pity is, the live chat element is one of the more promising aspects of the Justin.TV experiment. What would life be like with live feedback from 300 (relatively bright) people on the minutae of your life, whether deciding on a restaurant or a brand of laundry detergent? And just looking at the Justin.TV mentions at Twitter, it's clear it's something people want to talk about. Just not at Justin.TV.

Justin himself knows there's a problem. Moments ago, someone asks whether the chatroom is working. Says he:

"I don't know, I don't want to go on the site. Until there's really good moderation and stuff, I don't want to go on the site."

Considering the number of other chat providers who've approached Justin.TV in recent days, I'd say Lingr's days are numbered if they can't roll out some moderation model by... well, tomorrow.

Producer Wanted

Justin Reads His Front Page Story

One of the most interesting things about Justin.tv is following along in real-time as he reacts to his growing fame. I'm also noticing that more and more people on the streets are recognizing him.

We posted earlier today about the San Francisco Chronicle (Justin's local paper) running a front page story about him today. Justin ran out and bought a few copies of the paper and spent a good part of the morning walking around, reading the article, and showing the article to the people that he ran to.

The guy at the end of the video mistakes Justin for a singer (ha!) but a few seconds later he recognizes him from the local TV news.

Win Some, Lose Some
