Scott Beale of Laughing Squid has posted some lovely pics of iJustine's all-day camera takeover. She wears that hat well!
The lifecasting trend is certainly picking up steam! A few of us tuned in yesterday as our own Justin.tv Guide founder, Ryan Ozawa, took us on a tour of a mall in Hawaii as he experimented with a little bit of Ustream.tv lifecasting himself. WebProNews posted an interesting article on the growth spurt: "You.tv - A New Chapter in Lifecasting." In it, Brian Solis notes that Justin.tv still stands apart from the crowd because he's the only one who's making money and broadcasting 24/7.

Lot's Of Stuff...
"The End Of "24/7"."
"What Did He Do?"
"Justine: Bad Or Good For Justin.TV?"
"Web 2.0 Expo...Justin AWOL"
The End Of "24/7".
In yet another attempt to show potential investors, media, advertisers and viewers how irresponsible the kids at Justin.tv are, Justin, with little notice, decided to take the "day off" and gave up his camera duties to a blogger named Justine.
This was only after about a month, which already caught the attention of some bloggers (http://blog.wired.com/business/2007/04/justin_tv_crack.html).
Now the site has taken down the "Justin Facts", which said among other things, Justin would broadcast himself live "24/7" or "...until the day he dies".
Justin is alive and well.
I am not sure what the "Live For" clock has to do with anything anymore. It no longer has anything to do with Justin wearing the camera or broadcasting himself.
It does not have anything to do with the continuous streaming of the feed, because the feed has not been continuous. It regularly goes down, sometimes for long periods of time.
So, I guess that just leaves us with the clock just being there to either mislead new viewers. or tell people how long the website has been online, which is no big deal and just plain dumb.
Note: As I write this, that no longer applies. The whole website just went down.
Justin is very fond of the "24/7" phrase in explaining to everyone what he is doing.
That is not true anymore. Let's see how he now shapes his explanation of what he does.
What Did He Do?
I think most business people would agree in Justin's situation, given the lack of privacy, time away from the camera would provide a perfect opportunity to schedule meetings and to meet with present investors, possible new investors and advertisers. This would be a chance to hold discussions outside the masses of viewers and to "right the ship".
At least, we would expect that Justin would spend all day at the Web 2.0 Expo, spreading the word and making contacts.
Personally, I don't thing that was the case. Considering that when Justine came by to pick up the camera, Justin slept clear to the time that Justine arrived. He didn't seem to much interested in getting dressed for the day.
When people at the Web 2.0 Expo asked Justine what Justin was doing, she said he was sleeping.
I can be wrong, but considering the lack of business savvy on Justin's part, I can see him just sleeping all day and not getting much done at all, as far as Justin.TV goes.
I just received an unconfirmed email that Justin was at the Expo, but I cannot find anybody else to confirm that.
Justine: Bad Or Good For Justin.TV?
I have written previously about my opposition, on many levels to having somebody else wear the camera for the day (The Kids Tired Already With Their Toys?: http://tinyurl.com/2hybf6).
Having viewed or was kept informed, by other viewers, of the day's events with Justine, I have not changed my opinion.
I think, one of the most overriding considerations has to be the fact that Justine is simply more interesting and fun than Justin. She showed us that a person that actually cares about the viewer, is socially adept and is not self-centered, can put on a compelling show.
There could be a negative backlash from this. Viewers could tune out, rather than continue to follow Justin.
Web 2.0 Expo...Justin AWOL"
I touched on this earlier, but I must comment further. In another irresponsible move, Justin has basically blown off the Expo (He did attend for a short time the first day). A place where the press, investors and a ton of interesting people are.
I notice that Ustream.com (Justin.tv's competitor) has sent two people with cameras to stream live from the event.
Instead, it seems, Justin feels it makes better business sense to give his camera to somebody else, to get stumbling drunk every night and to sleep late.
Last night, Justin passed out on the floor then woke up in the morning and crawled into his bed with another guy... The rest of the story I am sure will be blogged.
Anyway, true to Justin, he woke up with a hang-over and went to another interview.
What are these guys thinking?
It is just my speculation, but could it be that Justin feels uncomfortable with these people? There are plenty of smart people that know business and technology, nothing of which Justin seems to know much about.
The business side I have talked about, but, as regular viewers can tell you, Justin has to ask for help to repair any hardware and software issues with the equipment. I don't believe he can contribute to the coding of the website at all.
So how can he relate to the "Big Boys" at the Web 2.0 Expo?
Today, according to the site calender, Justin is supposed to be at the Expo, but of course is not. It is my understanding he may stop by later in the day.
Also, I just received another email saying that Justin, once again is going to give up the camera tonight.
Tell me, if you were a possible investor, would you give your money to person who passes out drunk on the floor until 5AM, so hung-over he crawls into bed with some guy and then goes to a live internet TV program?
I don't understand these guys...
If it meant a real chance at thousands, if not millions of dollars, don't you think you could keep it together for a few months?
Jerry - thanks for being such a great fan! Keep watching!
ya jerry. you are definitely putting a LOT of thought in to this venture. keep em coming.........
Hey everyone, thanks for the mention. Here's the link for the story I wrote: http://www.briansolis.com/2007/04/youtv-new-chapter-in-lifecasting-is.html
The other thought I had for the folks at Justin.tv was to experiment with the addition of a new character and channel (.tv) to come in every now and then filming Justin in action. The goal of this program will be to follow Justin as he meets cool/interesting/important people and make them stars too by also following them around in interesting circumstances.
It will start to diversify the brand and start the creation of a broadcast entity. Strike while the iron is hot!
You.tv!
Thanks good work.
